The North of Scotland Paediatric Respiratory Network (NoSPRN) delivers a service which benefits paediatric respiratory patients across the north of Scotland. The network provides a mixture of cross board and locally based services, in the provision of person-centred, safe, effective, equitable care. The National Delivery Plan (2008-2011) enabled the formalisation of the network. Funding was utilised to appoint a mixture of consultant, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and specialist dietetic staff.
Locally based teams provide secondary care, with tertiary support provided on a weekly basis in Dundee and Aberdeen and bi-monthly in Inverness.
Cross boundary working of consultants has delivered an increase in capacity by bringing tertiary respiratory expertise to new locations closer to patients’ homes in areas such as Shetland, Orkney, Inverness and the Isle of Skye.
Staff within the network have access to a wide range of training opportunities, designed to support the development and sustainability of the network.
