Our Purpose and Way of Working

The NHS Scotland North Regional Team support Regional Networks, services and the regional hub. More information on each can be found via the links above..

We work to support the NHS Scotland vision of a healthcare system where we have integrated health and social care and a focus on prevention, anticipation and supported self-management. When hospital treatment is required, and cannot be provided in a community setting, day case treatment will be the norm. Whatever the setting, care will be provided to the highest standards of quality and safety, with the person at the centre of all decisions. There will be a focus on ensuring that people get back into their home or community environment as soon as possible, with minimal risk of readmission.

As a regional team, our mission is to work collaboratively with clinical and managerial leaders across healthcare organisational boundaries to support improvement in the quality and outcomes of care for the population across the North of Scotland.

We believe that collaborative working across the region, particularly to address complex or persistent issues, brings opportunities for improved quality, efficiency and sustainability through the sharing of expertise, the spreading of good practice and the cross-fertilisation of ideas. However, working in this way is challenging.

As a regional team, we help our stakeholders to work through obstacles to regional working by providing network, programme and project management support, helping people to navigate complex governance structures and processes, and providing and sharing evidence and experience. We work to facilitate collaboration through knowledge brokering and by filtering and amplifying important, relevant information, communicating this to the right people and groups. The theory is that our stakeholders, by engaging with the regional team and receiving useful information and support, are motivated and supported to collaborate regionally. In turn, this collaboration will help to realise greater equity and opportunities for improved quality, efficiency and sustainability. This ‘Theory of Change’ is described in the diagram below:
