About this website

The following information and resources are here to help you better understand the role that nutrition plays in cancer.

How do you use the website?

The website is designed for you to use as a starting point for managing nutrition related concerns.

You will find practical tips to help make eating and drinking easier when you are faced with the symptoms of cancer or side effects from treatment. You may currently be experiencing these or you may be aware that you could experience them and wish to read up on them to know how you might cope with them if they occur.

Use the A-Z guide to search if you know what information you are looking for or browse the list for examples of the information that is available.

Topics include

  • Coping with specific symptoms and side effects that affect your eating and drinking habits
  • Adjusting your eating and drinking habits following surgery
  • Managing weight changes

Not all sections will be relevant or of interest to you but the information is designed to be stand alone so you can browse the pages in any order as and when they become relevant.

What are the main features of the website?

  • A-Z improving your nutritional status
  • Downloadable leaflets
  • Video content
  • Support for carers
  • Information on cancer survivorship
  • Links to local and national organisations and charities that can offer support

Who is the website for?

Anyone affected by cancer, whether you have cancer or are dealing with side effects from treatment or surgery you may find the resources on this website helpful. This includes family, friends or carers of those affected by cancer.

The information can also be used as a learning resource for staff themselves or for staff to pass on information to their service users.

If you or the person you are supporting has two or more health conditions, you may find that some of the dietary information is conflicting. In this situation the advice may need to be individualised by a dietitian. Contact your local dietetic team for support.

What about additional support?

Not everyone will be able to manage nutrition related concerns using the information on this website alone.

If you think you could benefit from additional support from a Registered Dietitian to manage your condition, contact your local department.

If you already have input from a Registered Dietitian, this website does not replace the individualised plan that you may have set up with them but it could be used alongside this information or between appointments.

What is a dietitian?

A Dietitian is an expert in nutrition and diet. All Dietitians are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Click here for more information on how specialist oncology dietitians can help you and contact your local dietetic team for support.

How was the website developed?

A dietitian worked alongside cancer service users and staff groups to help identify the information you would find most useful. This information has contributed to the development of this website and the leaflets and videos included.

We are continuing to develop the website based on user feedback so please get in touch with any comments via the survey linked here.
