Macmillan Psychological Support Project

This Scotland-wide, 18-month project, began in June 2023 and is part of the next stage of implementing the Psychological therapies and support framework for people affected by cancer.

The Macmillan Psychological Support Project team is made up of two Clinical Leads: Dr Helen Moffat and Dr Kathleen McHugh, and is supported by Programme Coordinator: Jennifer Cameron.

The project will undertake the benchmarking and scoping of opportunities to increase the provision of psychological support, in line with the four levels identified in the framework.

Improving access to psychological support and interventions for those affected by cancer is an action in the Scottish Government's 2023-26 Cancer Plan.  This is also a key priority for Macmillan and follows work undertaken in NHS England to develop this provision of services across the NHS, community and third sectors.

For further information about the project please email Jennifer.cameron@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Macmillan Psychological Support Project Scoping Report 2024

The Macmillan Psychological Support Project completed a national scoping survey to establish an up-to-date mapping of health, social care and third sector organisations across Scotland, who provide psychological support or therapy specifically for people affected by cancer.

A report has been developed in collaboration with the project’s national steering group; the project team appreciate the input of everyone who responded to the Macmillan Psychological Support Scoping Survey.
